Tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannons were used.

Police officers in Tbilisi used tear gas, water cannons and rubber bullets to disperse protesters against the law on ‘foreign agents’, Paper Kartuli writes.

The police initiated mass arrests on Rustaveli Square near the parliament building, where protesters blocked one of the entrances. The images published by the publication show police hitting protesters with batons, using tear gas, water cannons and rubber bullets to disperse the demonstration.

‘The Interior Ministry used special measures established by law to restore justice. The demonstrators verbally and physically confronted the law enforcement agencies. Once again, we call on political leaders, organisers and participants of the rally not to violate the norms established by the law on assemblies,’ the Georgian Interior Ministry said.

As NewsGeorgia notes, more than 20 people have turned to ambulance doctors. The victims complain of tearing in the eyes and suffocation. TASS reports that law enforcers have started to clear Rustaveli Avenue in front of the parliament in Tbilisi.
